Wouldn&#8217;t it be great to be able to really say you spent the weekend hanging out with the Tudors? (Unless you&#8217;re one of Henry&#8217;s wives, that is.)</p>
<p><a href="http://cherieblogs.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/henry1.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1074" title="henry" src="http://cherieblogs.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/henry1.jpg" alt="" width="588" height="300" /></a></p>
<p><strong>The Tudors</strong></p>
<p>No, what I really mean is that I indulged in my Tudor obsession quite a bit this weekend. I started watching <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2FB001AQR3LC%3Fie%3DUTF8%26tag%3Dwwwthediffere-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D1789%26creativeASIN%3DB001AQR3LC&amp;tag=wwwthediffere-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">The Tudors</a></em><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwthediffere-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> Season Three, and it was every bit as over the top and fabulous as I anticipated. I love how they kind of get the history right, but you don&#8217;t seem to care because it&#8217;s so well done. When I first heard <strong>Jonathan Rhys Meyers</strong> was going to play Henry VIII, I thought&#8230; <em>wha</em>? But he&#8217;s been great at getting to the madness part of Henry. I notice they haven&#8217;t really made Henry gain weight yet, which he should be doing by now. Then again, the show is known for doing the Henry story &#8220;their way.&#8221; LOL!  I love it just the same. I&#8217;m up to the part where <strong>Joss Stone</strong> joins the cast as Anne of Cleves. Should be interesting.</p>
<p><strong>The Queen&#8217;s Governess</strong></p>
<p>I&#8217;m also reading Karen Harper&#8217;s <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0399156186?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=wwwthediffere-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0399156186">The Queen&#8217;s Governess</a></em><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwthediffere-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0399156186" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />. I&#8217;m about halfway through and it&#8217;s every bit as wonderful as her other stories. The first thing I read by her was <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F0440225922%3Fie%3DUTF8%26tag%3Dwwwthediffere-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D1789%26creativeASIN%3D0440225922&amp;tag=wwwthediffere-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">The Poyson Garden</a></em><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwthediffere-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />, and I was instantly a fan. I loved the Elizabeth I mystery series, <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BWQ5HC?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=wwwthediffere-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B002BWQ5HC">Mistress Shakespeare</a></em><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwthediffere-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B002BWQ5HC" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />, and <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F0307237907%3Fie%3DUTF8%26tag%3Dwwwthediffere-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D1789%26creativeASIN%3D0307237907&amp;tag=wwwthediffere-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">The Last Boleyn</a></em><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwthediffere-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />. <em>The Queen&#8217;s Governess</em> is centered around <strong>Kat Ashley</strong> and the author has created an interesting story line involved her, especially when it comes to <strong>Tom Seymour</strong>. As I said, I&#8217;m about halfway through but I suspect this will play into the fact that she testified that there was no wrongdoing between Elizabeth and Tom. If any of you are Tudor fiction fans, I highly recommend it.</p>
<p><strong>Best Historical Fiction Books</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s no secret that I love historical fiction. So many people ask me which are my favorites, so I created a <a target="_blank" href="http://workingwritersandbloggers.com/2010/01/25/best-historical-fiction-books/">list </a>over at the Working Writers blog. While my tastes lean toward the Tudor era, I also have favorites by <strong>Sharon Newman, Sandra Gulland</strong>, <strong>Norah Lofts</strong>&#8216; book about <strong>Hortense de Beauharnais</strong>, and <strong><a target="_blank" href="http://workingwritersandbloggers.com/2009/09/10/interview-michelle-moran/">Michelle Moran</a></strong>. Making this list was like giving thanks during the Oscars &#8211; you just know you forgot someone as soon as you were finished. Sure enough, after I hit publish I realized I didn&#8217;t have anything from <strong><a target="_blank" href="http://workingwritersandbloggers.com/2009/11/24/interview-margaret-george/">Margaret George</a></strong> on there, who is one of my favorite authors. I&#8217;m going to have to go back and make another list!</p>
<p><strong>Giveaway: Martyr: An Elizabethan Thriller</strong></p>
<p>As if all this Tudor-ness wasn&#8217;t enough, I&#8217;m also doing a <a target="_blank" href="http://workingwritersandbloggers.com/2010/01/12/giveaway-martyr-an-elizabethan-thriller/">giveaway </a>at Working Writers for <strong>Rory Clements</strong>&#8216; book <strong><em>Martyr: An Elizabethan Thriller</em></strong>. Today is the last day, though, so if you&#8217;re interested, be sure to <a target="_blank" href="http://workingwritersandbloggers.com/2010/01/12/giveaway-martyr-an-elizabethan-thriller/">pop over and enter</a>! I&#8217;m also hoping to have an interview with Clements up there soon as well.</p>
<p>That takes care of my weekend! How was yours?</p>
