I told the DJs that to answer that question (which I don’t mind at all, btw) is “another show entirely.” Hey – if they want to have me back on just to talk about Favre, I’m all for it.

It was a lovely day except for the Packer loss today. I actually had some hope that we might pull it out, but that was foolish fan logic and nothing more. Still, it’s nice to know that Brett Favre not only comes back to Lambeau and kicks our butts but also ties yet another NFL record (that of the most games throwing four or more touchdowns. He tied Dan Marino today.)

Not surprisingly there were a smattering of both boos and cheers for Favre. Also not surprising was the overconfidence of the Packers. Didn’t I just mention this last week? Johnny Jolly costs us deeply with his first quarter illegal headbutt, and Rodgers was on the ground more than he was upright.

Favre was emotional in the end, and no kidding. Personally, I don’t have it in me to hate him. I don’t have it in me to spend too much time thinking about him. He’s a great player, on a great team, and is fun to watch. But what I’d really hoped today was that we would just shut up and play and beat ‘em. Sigh…

Even when we hold Adrian Peterson to low yardage the Vikings still have some major weapons. Speaking of Peterson, did I tell you what my favorite commercial is these days? You’ll understand why in about five seconds. Behold:

Yeah. Nice.

Anywho, I looked over the rest of our schedule. The Vikings have the toughest second half schedule (in my opinion) in our league. We have a very easy schedule and I’m hoping that means we can at least have more wins than losses. That’s what it’s come to people!

Our hamburger soup turned out fabulous and we’ve even got leftovers for the week! Bonus. It’s on to Tampa Bay next week. They are currently 0-7. I’m thinking we should be able to win that one, what do you think?

In a way, it is like a holiday. For Packer fans, our beloved quarterback for 16 seasons will be playing against us for the first time. Am I angry? Hoping he’ll get tanked? Nope.

Despite all the hatred that sportscasters like to stir with Brett Favre, I would say average fans like me feel a bit differently. I am rooting for the Packers to win. But seeing Favre fail? My heart just isn’t in it. Truth be told, there is a part of me that still misses him.

Don’t get me wrong. I was angry with his antics during the “retire/unretire” saga over the past few decades. Then, I was angry with Ted Thompson for the way they were handling the situation. Let’s put it this way, you don’t hire an ex-White House press secretary (Ari Fleischer) to “spin” for you unless you’ve done some questionable things that you don’t want to fans to see. The Packers did just that.

They pointed the finger at Favre, which, let’s admit is easy to do. He isn’t known for being eloquent. But at the same time, I think that’s one reason we like him.

And we do like him. Despite it all, we still do.

I suspect many fans tonight will be just like me. We’ll root for our beloved green and gold, but we’ll smile when Favre takes the field as well. Football is better with Favre in the game. It’s more exciting, more unpredictable. Favre kept up smiling, laughing, and shouting. We were engaged. We saw his passion and it fueled us to cheer along.

I look forward to beating him tonight like I would any opposing quarterback. I’ll be cheering tonight for my team tonight like I always do, but there is a part of me that will tip my hat to Favre as well and say, “Nice to see you again. Now let’s play.”

Favre Has Two More Chances to Beat the Bears
Yeah, sure, Favre is going to play opposite Green Bay for the first time ever, but he’s also going to play the Bears. Again. And you know how those Bear fans can’t stand Favre. They don’t know why, they just do. And Packer fans can take some pleasure in that.

Favre Looks Awful in Purple
It was one thing to see him in green and white. But purple? Awful. No one looks good in that color, especially not an-ex Packer. It will be easier to look at Favre as an ex-member of our team that way. Which reminds me:

The Favre Saga is Truly Done
Didn’t it feel like the ghost of Favre hung over Lambeau a little bit last year? We had the constant comparisons between Aaron Rodgers and Favre, the constant talking about what Favre would have done, and even the inane comparison of hand sizes between the two quarterbacks. But with Favre in purple now it has never been so clear that he’s gone from the team. We wished him well when he went to the Jets. Now it will be like, “Did you ever play for us? We can’t remember.” Which is how we have to look at him right now.

The 3/4 Defense Can Shine
We’ve all heard about the fabulous 3/4 defense the Packers are using this year. Dom Capers is here – we’re excited. Our defense can shine, and no more brightly than when we play our ex-quarterback. It will make for a much more interesting game when we play the Vikings.

I also think he didn’t do himself any favors by the way he acted. Despite being sick of hearing about him, I can’t stop writing about him. That is what Favre does to us.

But here’s the thing, I WANT to see Brett Favre play for the Vikings. At this point, (God help me) I think I would like nothing better. Here’s why.

I want to see Favre compete again. Especially with a West Coast Offensive team. I was pretty amazed that Favre even learned Mangini’s complicated offense last year. He’s known as a talented player but not necessarily a studious one. He learned a brand new (phone book sized) playbook, which certainly surprised me. I expected him to not be prepared and play at least one or two games. But he did. Still, with the West Coast Offense he’s been playing for years, I really want to see what he can do.

I want to see him go out in a big way. If this is truly going to be his last year, I want to see him be wildly successful or completely inept. None of this mediocre stuff.

I want to see Favre play “pissed off.” No one plays better under adversity, and Favre going to the Vikings surely qualifies as that. This is when he plays his most exciting game. It won’t always be glorious, but it will be interesting to watch. Love him or not, he is definitely entertaining.

I want to see the Packer defense step up. I love a defensive game, and if Favre is the quarterback to beat on the other team, it surely means a great defensive game on the part of the Packers.

Favre in purple will allow it to sink in once and for all that he isn’t truly a Packer. He still says “he’ll always be a Packer,” but if he’s in a purple jersey there’s no way that can be true. Going from Packer green to Jets green (and a completely different league) was a slight change. Going from green to purple means something far different to Packer fans.

I think he will, or Bus Cook wouldn’t have asked for the release.

But perhaps the even bigger news…. Photos have surfaced that claim Tupac Shakur is alive. I joke on both these events being a “big deal” of course. (And for the record, nothing trumps great reviews and supportive friends who offer up their blogs for space on my virtual tour.)

The Tupac thing is something I’ve been waiting for, however. Like Jeanne, who wrote the post that alerted me to the recent change of events, I, too have wondered about his death. When he went to prision I wondered if he would eventually fake this death like Machiavelli supposedly did. Plus, he’s been very “prolific” since his death. It wouldn’t surprise me at all, and if he is alive, I humbly ask that he sign my copy of The Rose That Grew From Concrete. (I’m a sucker for a brillant poet.)
