Mixed Media With Nathaniel Hawthorne Quote
I’m doing some more experimenting with mixed media, and decided to make a picture for my mom. I also wanted to include this quote I really like from Nathaniel Hawthorne:
Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

First, I painted a background color onto a canvas.
Then added a few more colors and a few stamps.
I added a copy of an old picture of me and my mom that I like but also thought it fit the image of a butterfly stopping by on your shoulder for a moment. The picture is from a cottage we used to go to and I can remember chasing butterflies back in the day there. I also added some other layers.
Finally, I added the quote and a few more layers. My mom really liked this picture, so I was happy about that!
What a beautiful saying! I love how you use (I think it’s called) punchinella ribbon in your mixed media. It really pulls a design together.

Aw, thanks. You know, I never knew what that was called until you just said it! LOL. Put you’re right, that’s the name. I like that way that looks in combination with the bubble wrap.
