Paper Craft Turkey Card
I wanted to make my aunt a homemade Thanksgiving card this year. I don’t send Thanksgiving cards usually, but she’s been really great to me all my life and I always try and send her something. I had this image in my head of a card made with craft paper, with a turkey cut out of construction paper. You know, almost like a kid’s project.
I searched online and saw this turkey trivia card from Martha Stewart. I liked that she was using this as a conversation piece at the Thanksgiving table. I decided to use the template from this card to make my turkey. Instead of the traditional colors she used, I wanted to use up some scrapbooking paper I had.
I decided to use an old grocery bag as the base for the card, and I wanted to make it to fit a business letter sized envelope. (I have a lot of these envelopes for some reason, and with email I never use them.) First, I cut out the grocery bag to fit the envelope.
Then, I had to find a way to cover up the grocery store’s logo. I decided to glue it to a piece of scrapbook paper. I choose one that had Thanksgiving colors and words all over it.
I used small, leftover scrapbooking paper for the turkey and wings.
Then, I glued the head of the turkey down on the card, and used a brad to attach the wings and back end. I had a couple stickers of leaves I placed at the bottom of the turkey, and one that said “thankful” that I put at the top. Then I wrote a note to my aunt in there.
It’s a pretty simple and basic card, but I know my aunt will really like it. She loves homemade things, and has also encouraged me to “use my creative gifts.” I like the fact that this one has muted colors, is simple in design, and uses stuff up. It was also easy enough that I could make a bunch of them if I wanted to send several out.

So cute!! I could not live without my little paper cutter thing (oh-whatchamacallit) in the top picture. Makes doing stuff like this so much easier

I agree with you Cherie! If you’re gonna give a card to a special someone on a non-Hallmark holiday, the card just HAS to be homemade. Love yours!

Hi…just found this today. I wondered what the front of the card looks like; I must’ve missed it somewhere. Was it the picture with the grocery name and all the other words?? Looks fun to make!! Oh yeah…what did you do on the back to cover the brad, or did it show on the back? Thanks for sharing – love the idea!

You know what? I never showed the front! Eeesh. I didn’t realize it until now. The front has the scrapbook paper on it with all those words on it. I don’t have the card anymore or I would add it.
