Aarti, Scrapbooking, and Breaking Bad

What a title for a blog post, eh? This was pretty much my weekend, with a few other things thrown in for good measure. This entire summer I’ve tried to take the weekends off. This might sound like a normal thing but as a freelancer I’m always got my eye on the next job or opportunity, so I tend to spend a lot of time working on weekends. This summer I’ve made an effort to change that, and the interesting thing I’ve found is that over the weeks I’ve gotten used to it. (I’m sure that sounds very funny! Why do you need to get used to relaxing?)
This weekend I did a lot of movie and TV watching, as well as some crafting. I made a scrapbook for my young cousin, and it felt so good to just sit for hours and do something like that for another person. I’ve made lots of scrapbooks for people over the years, and I like to use the larger (12 x 12) size just to mix things up. That way I can use a lot of 8x10s in addition to various layouts with smaller pictures. I know she’s going to love it and I can’t wait to give it her.
While I was toiling away in the craft room, I watched The Book of Eli. I really wanted to like this movie, but I didn’t. First, it had that “dark” thing that I don’t like. I can’t stand watching an entire movie in sepia or dark tones. It’s just visually very depressing for me. (I’m a dork, so this probably doesn’t bother most people.) The movie reminded me a little of I Am Legend with religious undertones.
I caught up on some episodes of Breaking Bad (I’ve been watching them on DVD) and I think this means I’m through Season 2. I also downloaded the episode of Emergency that Bobby Sherman was on (and loved every minute of it.)
Last night was The Next Food Network Star finale and as expected, Aarti won. I’m very happy about this, although I really liked everyone in the final three. They really had a good group. I especially liked Aarti and Herb’s take on food. I hope Herb gets a show too. I’m looking forward to seeing Aarti on her new show, and even downloaded a few recipes today from her repertoire. I caught this video today of Aarti talking about making the finals, and was really touched by her personality. She certainly is a unique individual and cook, and will bring something different to the Food Network line up.
I also just realized Aarti had an online cooking show, look how absolutely fun and charming she is:
Very cute! I’m a fan.
So after my long weekend of doing nothing it is a bit harder to get back in the swing of things. I’ve had some ups and downs the last couple months with writing, and the time off gives me a chance to recharge my batteries and hit it hard again on Monday. Which I’m just about to do now!
