The Art Pact… The Art Pact
So now you know why it takes me so darn long to finish a painting! I’m too putzy. It’s not even that I try and be a perfectionist, it’s just that I’m so pokey. So what I’m doing is putting layers on the flowers. I love the detail on flowers, and sometimes I need to put the background in, even if most of it won’t show.
So with the flowers, I’m proceeding from right to left. You see the dark purple grape looking things on the right? That’s the first stage. I like to put the background in, so when I add the top layers, it looks more natural. Then, the lighter flowers (middle) is the next stage. Finally, the flowers on the left are the final version.
Putzy. I suppose I don’t need to do it this way, but it’s the way I paint and so… there it is. The painting is the most relaxing part… and the picture is just a side benefit. Anyway, now you see the update! I’ll finish maybe this week.

I love it. I read one time that Maxfield Parrish (my favorite artist) would do 100 layers to achieve the kind of light he was after. I bet that took a long time, too.

100 layers! Now I don’t feel so bad. Like I said, it’s not even a perfectionist thing. I think I just am that pokey when it comes to painting. I just keep playing with it until I get it the way I want. Hopefully this week I’ll finally be able to put up a picture of the finished product.
