What’s a Blogger to Do When Her Computer Won’t Cooperate?

I had a bad time with my computer the other day. But as I complained about it all, I thought that sometimes my computer is only as snappy as the gal operating it. I think (although I hate to admit it) that part of the problems I had the other day had more to do with me than my computer. There. I’ve said it! So what happened?

Sometime on Thursday an author I interviewed way way back when before I started the new Working Writers blog emailed me to say, “What happened to my interview?” It was partially up, and partially messed up. See, when I started Working Writers on wordpress, I combined some writing/author/publishing posts I had from my old The Difference Now blog and some from my old Working Writers blog and some were from old American Chronicle articles I had removed. (You still with me?) I imported them (or at least, I thought I did) and thought they all came through. Well, they didn’t. Not all of them.

Some of them came through. Some were partially there and partially hosed up. Some were missing. I don’t get it.

So I spent a large part of Friday trying to figure it out. And you know what I realized? I’m bad at computers. Because now, I don’t even know what I’m looking for. I had to tell the author that asked me about it that we would rework her interview, and thankfully, she said she probably still had the answers she had sent me somewhere. I think I located the ones that were partially there. But you know what’s really frustrating? Not knowing what really isn’t there that is supposed to be there.

But here’s where new and improved Cherie takes over. Younger Cherie would have pissed away the entire weekend on this. You know what I did instead? I chalked it up to experience. I did what I could. I still have a great number of author interviews on the site that I did after the wordpress conversation and I still have tons of information and guest posts that haven’t been messed with. Yay. So my site? It’s fine, relatively speaking. It just isn’t perfect. But what does that word mean anyways?

The younger Cherie would have refused to eat or sleep or leave her desk until she had found every last morsel that had escaped this conversion. Present day Cherie? She decided to stay off the computer for a while. She needed a break.

So I painted, went rummage sale shopping, and even watched a movie in the middle of the day. It was a chilly, rainy day and it was perfect for that. The best part was while I did these things, I didn’t still sit and obsess about the computer. This might sound like nothing to you, but I can assure you, this is great strides for me!

Today? I’ll be doing much of the same. Although I did take the time to write this blog post and check out a few of my friend’s blogs, I didn’t do much else. I will continue working on my next novel and the painting for my art pact and I might even watch another movie.

Yesterday I watched An Education. I thought it might be some creepy Lolita-type thing but it wasn’t. The screenplay was written by Nick Hornby so that should tell you about the humor/relationships in it. It’s good. Here’s a clip:

After that I watched this thing on Oprah where Russell Crowe was talking about his new movie Robin Hood. I don’t watch Oprah very often, but every once in a while I catch it. Like when the Octomom was on! Seriously, what a situation that is. Anywho, I love Russell Crowe and seeing some previews from Robin Hood makes me think I should crack my pocketbook open to see that one in the theater. Here’s a clip:

Are you with me on this? We’ve got to see this one in the theater when it comes out. As for computer problems, I’m just doing what I can. :)
