March is National Crochet Month
March is one of my favorite months. I’ve had a lot of great things happen in this month so I always feel very positive about it. Know what else happens in March? National Crochet Month! Crocheters of the world unite!
I’ve been crocheting for thirty-five years, and I have yet to get tired of it. In fact, last month I just stumbled on Tunisian crochet and I can’t wait to learn. The stitches are unbelievable, and look so much like knitting. I’m hoping to get some time to teach myself the technique this year.
Also, in honor of National Crochet Month, I picked up a very cute book called Hooked on Murder, which is a “crochet murder mystery.” It’s cheesy in a good way. I always like to give one of my fictional characters the hobby of crochet, but Betty Hechtman managed to weave (yuk yuk) the theme of crochet throughout this book. Very fun! It’s like one of those corny USA Network mystery shows, which I happen to love.
I’m still working on my scarves for the homeless, too. I’m hoping to finish a bunch in the next couple weeks so I can take them down to one of the shelters in town. I want to donate them and also my time (as part of the “stuff I want to do this year“). Crocheting has been such a great, relaxing hobby for me, so if you’re looking for something new to try, give it a whirl. I’m off to stitch while the family watches a movie. Sounds a little bit like heaven, doesn’t it?
