Cool Stuff Found Online
They say the Internet is filled with useless information and junk, but since I make my living from things I have on the Internet, I am inclined to disagree! More than that, I come across some cool stuff while searching the web. People either send me links or I happen upon it myself, but I thought I’d share some of the neat junk I’ve found.
Elizabethan Fashion Gown Cookies
Okay, I’ve talked about my fascination with Tudor history about ten or twenty times, haven’t I? Well I found these awesomely cool cookies that look like Elizabethan gowns over at Autumn Carpenter’s blog. They were created by April Farnum. She used “several techniques and textures, including the swirl mat from the wedding cookie cutter set and the flower mat from the heart cookie cutter set.” They are gorgeous, and what fun to serve during a viewing of The Tudors!
Amazing Artworks Created from Old Books
I love books (which I’ve also mentioned ten or twenty times), but it’s not just reading them that gives me a kick but creating things with them. I like to get old books from rummages and library sales to craft with. I’ve made some fun stuff, but nothing like Su Blackwell does. She makes these fabulous works of art that I would love to have in my home. All that teeny tiny cutting – wow.
Movie Popcorn Cupcakes
I think cupcakes are just so adorable. I love making them, although I’m not nearly as creative as Autumn Carpenter, who did these wonderful movie popcorn cupcakes for her daughter. The “popcorn” is actually marshmallows spray painted with light yellow food coloring to make it look like butter. Then she created soda cupcakes. Amazing.
Red Velvet Cake Balls
One of my favorite authors, Sandra Byrd, posted this link for red velvet cake balls on her Facebook page. Sandra has a great appreciation for food, as evidenced by her fabulous “French Twist” series of books. This recipe looks so fun, I may try it next week for a birthday party.
Tea Cup Clock
Why didn’t I think of this? Thanks to my buddy Michelle for sending me this link for a tea cup clock. So creative! I love things that you can make from reused material. (Yes, I am a dumpster diver. I admit it. And yes, I have actually dove in a dumpster once to get a table! I painted it purple and it stayed in my apartment for years. Mostly tho, I just got to rummages and flea markets.) Seeing this clock makes me wonder what I could make with my Currier and Ives collection of dishes. Hmmmm…..
