A few years ago I was interviewed by Tricia Crisafulli for her online magazine, Faith, Hope, & Fiction. I had just published my poetry book Father’s Eyes and had a wonderful phone conversation with her and loved what she was doing with her site. When I started my own writing site a while back, I had the opportunity to interview her. But being the super nice person that she is, she had me back on her site again!

This time I’m on with a poem from my book Father’s Eyes entitled “His Child, Not Yours.” I wrote the poem one day when I was having a bad day and was reflecting back on my faith. Because here’s the thing, even when I’m having a rough time, even when I scream out and ask God why these terrible things are happening to me, I’m still God’s child. I will always be.
As I thought about this, I imagined the devil taking great pride in my meltdown. But God has the final word, and no matter what I do or say or how I act, I am His child. Rest assured that when I’m having an awful day and even behaving poorly, I get down on my knees to ask for forgiveness and help in doing better. As long as there is God, this is how it will always be. And, as I say in my poem, there is always God.
