The Allure of Joan Holloway

Okay, my husband is secretly in love with Joan Holloway. I have to admit that Joan (the character from Mad Men) really is something unique on TV. She’s curvy, independent (as much as you could be in the 60s), and assertive without being bitchy. She doesn’t scheme or trash other women. But she’s no wallflower, either.
When Joan fired that skank that Roger left his wife for, she handled herself coolly yet sternly. (“What on God’s green earth are you doing back here?”) And when the new Mrs. Sterling held that big party and invited everyone (it seemed) but dear Joan, well Joanie just threw her own dinner party where she ends up playing the accordion and singing “C’est magnifique!” This woman is unstoppable! I’ve been unable to stop singing, “Ooh la la” ever since. Here’s a clip:
I’m not the only one that thinks Joan is awesome. Take Dyna Moe, who offers the sweetest darn artwork of the Mad Men cast that you’ve ever seen. Take this one from the accordion eppy:

There’s a fabulous Joan paper doll or two you must see as well.
What is it about Joan? It isn’t even the actress, Christina Hendricks, that plays her. It’s HER. Joan. The imaginary character that the writers of Mad Men created and Hendricks brought to life. She’s magnifique!
