True Blood

I never thought I would say this… but I’ve been bitten.  (And yes, the pun is intended.)

True Blood Season 2 Premiere Screening

Now here’s the thing: Vampires are so not my thing. I could care less. I know they’re really hot right now and if people dig them, rock on with your bad selves. I’m all for people and their individual tastes. But not for me.

My hubby, on the other hand, loves vampires. He likes them scary and bloody. But vampire as romantic lead? Not so much.

So it was with some trepidation that we rented True Blood last night. We finally succumbed after a friend of ours (who, like me, doesn’t dig the vampire thing) found the series interesting. She liked it, and thought we would too.

Well okay then!

Friends recommendations mean so much more than anything else, don’t they?

When we first popped the DVD in, I thought, “Oh brother.” Anna Paquin as the lead? Set in a Southern town? Vampire that looks like he needs a bath and a shave?

Groan.

But the story kicked in. The writing was campy enough to be funny but serious enough to actually made you wonder what will happen next. For example, I loved the line where Sookie just left Bill and turns to get into her car, only to realize that he’s just disappeared. Now, she’s just spend several minutes alone with a vampire and was not the teeniest bit scared, but when he disappears she says, “Well that was creepy.”

Hilarious!

Granted, I’ve only watched two episodes so far, but that was enough to make me want to watch more. It’s going on our viewing list.

Do you watch True Blood? Why has it become such a hit?

  1. Cherie, I’m so tickled! As an utter vampirophile I am obsessed with that show, but I really think it’s so well written that even people not into the undead would enjoy it. And you’re living proof! And I’m going to have to give you a copy of “How to Catch and Keep a Vampire” to see if there’s any chance THAT might be enjoyable to the anti-vamp crowd. You’ll be my toughest audience!

Keep watching…can’t wait to talk to you and Andy about the show.
