St. Patty’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day has always been one of my favorites for some reason. Years ago I would actually take off the afternoon every March 17th so I could make it downtown and claim my spot at one of Milwaukee’s bars.
Now, I make my family a traditional Irish dinner. Corned beer, cabbage, and a pint of Guinness. I also make some kind of green dessert. Last year was a fabulous pistachio cake. Depending on how we feel we sometimes also have some friends over to celebrate. (After all, there’s always room for more on St. Patty’s Day!)
Last year I made Irish Soda Bread for the first time. It was fabulous! And very easy. Here’s a snap:
I used the recipe from my Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook, but it’s also found on her website.
Oh, and for all those singles out there, don’t think I’ve forgotten you. I wrote a list of St. Patrick’s Day date ideas for you as well!
Have a wonderful St. Patty’s Day! I will leave you with one of my favorite Irish blessings:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
