Glass Mushrooms
It's winter, which means I can't do my bigger glass sculptures because the smell and toxic-ness of the glue is too much to do in the house. So I'm experimenting. I'm trying to work on some smaller glass projects so I can use a different glue and do them in the house. Here's the latest obsession: glass mushrooms.
Keep an Eye Out for Someone Special
I got this fortune a while ago from a lunch date with my hubby, and it said "Keep an eye out for someone special." I just loved this thought. I know, Chinese fortunes are dorky and made up, but I dig them anyways. You do too, right? Admit it!
Cupcake Plate Stand
I've returned from my vacation (or more appropriately, staycation) and that means it's back to gluing glass together. My obsession continues!
Eiffel Tower Felt Ornaments
Remember those house ornaments I made with felt? Well I had some leftover and wanted to do another ornament project with them.
Wooden Birdhouse Necklaces
Recently I spotted these adorable birdhouse necklaces in Handcrafted Jewelry, and I knew I wanted to make them.
Interview at Karin Kaufman’s Blog
Hey, be sure to check out my interview at Karin Kaufman's wonderful blog. She asked me a bunch of insightful questions, and one I know that many writers also ask me about is how to manage my time as a writer. I've got a lot of irons in the fire, and I talk about the way I get it all done on Karin's blog. Show her some love!
Felt Ornament Houses
I think I've mentioned here in the past about the homemade ornament exchange that my cousins and I do every year. We're all over the country so it's nice to get something from them made with their own hand every year. It makes me feel like they are right there with me to celebrate Christmas.
Picnic Plate Veggie Stand
As you know, I've been a little obsessed with making glass garden sculptures. So in my quest to continue gluing things together now that the weather has turned cold, I've decided to make a few cake plates.
11 Things I’m Thankful For
A few people have mentioned that they'd like to do a special post today in honor of 11/11/11. I'm all for that! Since this is the month we're usually thankful for things, here are eleven of mine. (BTW, I'm writing these very quickly, so I'm sure I'll finish and then wish I had added something.... but here we go anyhow (in no particular order except probably the first couple...)
Easy Peasy Turkey Cards
I must have a thing for cheesy turkey cards. There is something about Thanksgiving that makes me want to create goofy turkey cards and send them. I love this holiday!
What Do You Think Love Is?
Recently I got an assignment to write about love. Specifically, what is love? Wow, that threw me for a loop at first.
Stained Glass Afghan
It's afghan making season once again, folks. I decided we really needed a new afghan for our front chair. Something smallish that we could just pop on over our legs in the chilly winter months. We have a lot of blues and purples in that room, so I decided to make this Stained Glass Motif Afghan. It was a free pattern, and it looked very easy. One thing I liked about it was that you use a lot of different colors. Sometimes I get bored using the same color throughout. This gave me a chance to change things up. So DH ...
Packer Mixed Media Page
I'm working on a Packer scrapbook to commemorate all the soups we made each week while we watched the game. Of course, we never expected the Packers to actually go to the Super Bowl. I have a bunch of photos from newspapers last year left over, and wanted to make a kind of mixed media page to put in with the other scrapbook pages. I took some pictures of the team from magazines and newspapers that we saved from last year: and some other mixed media materials: and started pasted them on a scrapbook page. Then I added paint a couple other things, like ...
Chicago Hot Dogs to Celebrate a Win Over Da Bears
Our weekly sandwich meals continue for the third week of the NFL season. This week the Packers played the Chicago Bears, so there was only one sandwich that would fit such a game, and that was Chicago-style hot dogs.
Paper Covered Pumpkins With Poetry
I saw these pumpkins on the Artsy Va Va blog, and really loved the idea. She took Dollar Store pumpkins, a twig from outside, pages from an old book, and some moss to create a new look. I loved what she did, and I wanted to make a few and also add some poetry to them.
Sandwich Trek to the Super Bowl
So last year we decided to scrapbook the weekly soups that we made in our trek to the Super Bowl. (Which we called "Soup-er Bowl.") And this year, we decided to change things up by making a different kind of sandwich every week. For week one, we went with a Wisconsin classic: brats. But we also wanted to try a new recipe, so we made root bear baked beans from Aarti Party to go along with it. I have to say, the beans were delish! Great recipe and so easy to make. First, we made some bacon to go on the ...

What I Wish I Knew Then About Friendship…
I've got a guest post up at Girlfriend Circles about "What I Wish I Knew Then... About Friendship." It's part of the celebration to bring recognition to Women's Friendship Month.
Blue and Teal Garden Glass Sculpture
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm totally addicted to making these garden sculptures. I did one and now I want to do more. More I tell you!
Glass Garden Sculpture
I've been seeing these glass sculptures all over the flea market circuit this year, and really think they are a great way to reuse vases and old glass plates.
Getting Flowers – Quote by Hans Christian Andersen
Got some beautiful flowers this week from my hubs, and it made me think of a favorite quote of mine.
Happy Friendship Day!
Today is International Friendship Day. Did you know that? It's a day to recognize all the fabulous friends in your life.
Mixed Media With Nathaniel Hawthorne Quote
I'm doing some more experimenting with mixed media, and decided to make a picture for my mom.
A Toast to Him
A friend and I were recently talking about some hard times we had experienced. She had been going through some issues, and I've been dealing with these house issues. We're both writers, so that means there is always the issue of finding work, getting paid, etc. As we chatted, she said something very interesting to me.
Almond Butter Cookies
I'm obsessed with almond butter lately. Why, I have no idea. I like peanut butter and use it in baking and cooking a lot, and I guess I just wanted to try almond butter. I picked up a jar at Wal-mart and have been using it here and there in places where I usually use peanut butter. It's really good.
Book Necklace
You know I love books, right? So when I saw this book pendant necklace I had to try it. In fact, I liked the project so much I started looking around the Bubble Gum and Duct Tape blog, and decided to interview the blogger, Maria Villanueva. Since I have a lot of book covers, I thought I'd make one of these for myself. I may make a few for my author pals once I practice this a little more. I haven't made too many necklaces thus far and don't know what I'm doing yet. Anyways, Maria has the whole tutorial on ...
New and Selected Poems at Inspired Pen
My writing buddy tel has a fabulous site called Inspired Pen, and she was kind enough to feature my poetry book, New and Selected Poems.
Mixed Media Experimenting
I've been experimenting with mixed media, and since I'm so new with it all it's been fun just playing. I can't remember the last time I just sat and played. You know? So this is the result of my recent playing experiment. I'm trying to get a handle on which techniques work best for me.

Beautiful Words
No surprise here: the Psalms are my favorite part of the Bible. (Must be that all that beautiful poetry.) So here I am on Christmas Eve and feeling very blessed for my God. I haven’t had an easy life, but He has been with me every step of the way. [Read more of this review] Read More →

I’m a big fan of Emily Dicksinson’s poetry, and this happens to be one of my favorites. There is something very sweet and sad about the poem, and then there’s the amazing meter that makes you think that she might be lonely but she’s trying to make the best of it.
